Diary Entry-Fort Ross Historical Park….The Road Trip begins!

I’m getting ready to saddle up and hit the road in search of Sasquatch! I’m excited, but I’m trying to keep my expectations low. There are countless folks who’ve gone out in search of Sassy and come back empty-handed.

But, the evidence I found at Huddart Park is hard to ignore. The footprint I (literally) stumbled onto was MASSIVE. It was easily 16-18 inches long with five pretty distinct toes. I sent some pics of the print to Professor Jeffrey Meldrum who’s an expert in foot morphology and locomotion in primates. He’s also got a thing for Sasquatch.

It took a few follow up emails to get a response (despite mentioning my Dad’s illustrious name), but he finally got back to me. Without seeing the actual print in person or getting a cast of it, he couldn’t really say anything definitively.

But, he said it didn’t necessarily look like the foot of a homo sapien to him. He caveated this statement by saying there are any number of ways to ‘fake’ something like this. Hence, the need to see it in person and/or get a cast of it.

I hustled back to Huddart upon receiving his email with the intent of getting a cast. I will never forget the spot where I encountered the footprint. But, it had been two weeks.

There was no sign of the print. There wasn’t even the faintest remnant of it. I should have known better. Total rookie mistake on my part.

Then again, I am a total neophyte to this whole ‘squatching’ thing. I’m learning as I go. Next time, I won’t screw this up.

I told Jeff about my ‘road trip’ and he wished me well. He also gave me a few tips about what to look for when I’m out there. Lastly, he cautioned me to temper my passion with patience.

I stumbled onto a footprint that ‘might’ be tied to a Sasquatch, but most who go squatching come away with little to show for their efforts. Jeff suggested keeping expectations low. I wasn’t thrilled to hear this, but I get it.

Ok. Enough musings about what lies ahead. It’s time to get rolling! I’ve got a fully fueled Honda Element (aka-Sassy) with some ‘special’ modifications ready to go. My first hotspot (Fort Ross State Historic Park) lies ahead. LET’S GET SQUATCHY!
