Diary Entry-Angel Island

The ‘rock’ was undoubtedly one of the most haunted places I’ve ever explored. It’s no wonder many think of Alcatraz as one of the most haunted places in the world.

I suppose I’m in an ‘island’ state of mind after exploring Alcatraz. So, I’m taking my act to Angel Island. Often referred to as the ‘Ellis Island’ of the West Coast, this spot wasn’t nearly as welcoming as Ellis Island.

It was on this island that countless Chinese immigrants were kept not for just a few hours, but for days, weeks, months, and in some cases, years. Not surprisingly, sadness and tragedy not infrequently unfolded here. According to some, the worst part of staying at the island were ‘the ghosts and the starving.’

Independent of the island’s sad history as a far less welcoming, West Coast version of Ellis Island, the island also housed a quarantine station, a hospital, and more.

Given the long, rich, and dark history of the island, it’s no wonder there are rumors of ghosts, hauntings, and things that go bump in the night. Once again, I’m tackling this (penultimate) haunt solo.

Mom’s feeling much better these days. She’s regained much of her strength. She’s been much more active and spending far less time in bed.

She’s all but PROMISED me that she’ll accompany for the FINAL haunt of the tour. Fingers crossed, she’ll be ready to saddle up and join me again. Better late than never.

In the interim, I’ll explore fog drenched Angel Island, an island with a history that is far from ‘angelic’.
