Diary Entry-Alcatraz..

It’s been a minute (or two) since I’ve penned anything in my diary. After 240 miles (and 15 haunts), I needed a bit of a breather. I also needed some time to process what I’d experienced.

While I managed to ‘contain’ the Nur, I can’t rest too easily. I don’t have any illusions what Mom and I did back in Colma will keep it ‘contained’ forever. The Nur might not be Freddy or Jason, but it certainly ‘seems’ like the kind of monster that doesn’t go down easy.

But, for now, the Nur is no longer a problem. So, I find myself on a ferry heading towards one of the most haunted places in the Bay Area (if not the world). I’m headed to Alcatraz….aka…..’The Rock’……aka…’evil island’.

There are more stories of ghosts than there were inmates on this infamous penitentiary for the most unrepentant. The rock abounds with all kinds of bad juju. Alcatraz was originally supposed to be part of the road trip, but the fates conspired.

The rock looks grim and ominous as the ferry carries me ever closer to this infamous spot. It’s hard to fathom what it must have been like to be imprisoned here. The island is surrounded by dangerous and bitterly cold waters. Despite this, numerous attempts were made to escape.

Frank Morris, Clarence Anglin and John Anglin managed to pull it off. But, they were never found. The general consensus is they drowned and were swept out to the Pacific Ocean.

As I stare at the choppy and frigid waters beneath the ferry, this seems like the most likely scenario. I can’t imagine anyone attempting to brave these waters. Yet, there’s an Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon every year that involves swimming from the rock to the Marina Green Beach in San Francisco.

I begged Mom to join me for this haunt. She’s not quite up for it yet. But, she promises me she’ll join for at least one of these last few haunts before all is said and done.
